In this prison that he is stuck in they emphasis and keep the prisoners as isolated from other prisoners as possible, but Rubashov manages to find a way to communicate with another prisoner. This is about the time when Rubashov has another flashback of his foreign missions to assist Germany, where the USSR communist were falling apart.
